Dentures in Wayne, New Jersey

Drs. Frank DiCicco, Joseph Pantaleo, Deepa Rupani, Michael Jaffin and our dentists at Smilepartnerz in Wayne, NJ, have a great deal of experience fabricating natural-looking full and partial dentures.

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Dentures can be either complete or partial. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” An immediate denture is made in advance of extractions and is inserted “immediately” following teeth removal. It is made so that patients never have to be without teeth during the healing period. Immediate dentures require adjustments to fit properly during the healing process. Immediate dentures should be relined and replaced as the tissue heals and shrinks.

A conventional denture is made to replace an existing denture, or eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed. These fit far better than immediate dentures as they allow the dentist to try the prosthesis in the patient’s mouth in wax and customize it every step of the way, the dentist can modify the aesthetics with the patient’s input, as needed.

Partial Dentures

A removable partial denture or bridge usually consists of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base, which is connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place in the mouth. Partial dentures are used when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw. A partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position.

Are There Alternatives to Dentures?

Yes, dental implants can be used to support permanently cemented bridges, eliminating the need for a denture. Implants and bridges more closely resemble the feel of natural teeth. Dental implants are a great alternative to dentures but not everyone is a candidate for implants.
